Congratulations to Valkyrie for receiving the Salem City Kindness Award!

Here’s what her teacher shared:
"Valkyrie is SO KIND to everyone! For example, a student in Mrs. H's class would not get off the bus one day. They tried everything that he liked, and nothing worked. Valkyrie came and went into the bus and asked Corbin to play, then said, "Hold my hand! You can do it!" She patiently went up and down the stairs to "show" him how to do it, and she was so patient with him. She went to the bottom of the stairs and reached out her hand. Then she played with a toy he likes by the door. He finally came out of the bus and walked with her. It was the sweetest thing ever!
Valkyrie is VERY SPECIAL!!!"

Way to go, Valkyrie! Your kindness makes our school a better place.

Mrs. Brindley taught us a school-wide chant about GRIT:
“We do our best and we don’t give up!”

Each grade explored what GRIT looks like in their own way:

Kindergarten read about Humpty Dumpty and how he got back up again. First grade discovered the power of “Yey!” Second-grade students tested their GRIT with a marshmallow experiment. Third graders learned about bubble gum brains vs. brick brains. Fourth-grade took a survey to see how much GRIT they have. Fifth-grade students practiced GRIT by writing their name with their opposite hand!

Our Falcons are learning that GRIT means sticking with it, even when things are tough. And today, we honored our September Falcons of the Month, students who consistently demonstrate grit in their classrooms every day.
